Does your Conservation District want to offer feral swine control services in partnership with GACD?

If so, complete the steps below to start the process.

*THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE TO BE COMPLETED BY CONSERVATION DISTRICT SUPERVISORS ONLY. IF YOU ARE A CONCERNED CITIZEN LOOKING FOR HELP WITH FERAL SWINE ISSUES PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL COSNERVATION DISTRICT WHICH CAN BE FOUND HERE*

1

Identify a Hog Control Custodian. This individual will operate the trap and perform control services on behalf of your Conservation District.

For larger Conservation Districts, consider multiple custodians to cover different areas.

2

Review the standard control equipment GACD offers and make your selections.

Hog Traps

Pig Brig XT System ($2,450 value)

Camera

Standard camera provided is SpyPoint Link Micro LTE, Model USA Vzn ($130 value). Please note, GACD does not fund the cost of monthly camera subscription services.

3

Determine if your Conservation District is able to contribute 10% towards the purchase of equipment.

4

Complete the participation request form.

This form is to be completed by Conservation District Supervisors. Once the form is submitted, your request will be presented to the GACD Board at their next scheduled meeting for proposed approval. Participation is based on availability of funds. GACD staff will contact you with an update on the status of your request.

If approved:

  • GACD staff will give you a copy of your District’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GACD outlining your participation in the program. An example of the MOU is available here. The MOU will need to be formally approved by the District, signed and returned to GACD. A countersigned copy will be returned to the District for their records.

  • The District will also need to assign a District Supervisor who will be responsible for the equipment should the Hog Control Custodian decide to stop participating.

  • All equipment will be shipped to the Hog Control Custodian unless GACD staff are notified otherwise. GACD staff will give the Custodian a Property Record to complete. An example of the Property Record is available here. This signed form should be returned to GACD. A copy will be returned to the District for their records. GACD staff will mail the new custodian an identification card that identifies them as performing control services on behalf of the Conservation District. A copy of the card is available here.

  • If requested, GACD staff will promote the District’s new program via newspaper articles and through the creation of brochures (view example of the brochure here). All participating District’s program details and Hog Control Custodian contact information are available on individual District webpages and on the GACD feral swine webpage.

Data Collection

Hog Control Custodians will be expected to submit monthly kill data to Tom Mims, GACD Feral Swine Committee Chair. This data will be shared every month via email by GACD staff to participating Districts and partners, and posted on social media.

Information for Hog Control Custodians

Hog Control Custodians are encouraged to attend monthly District meetings to provide updates on the program. Custodians should begin to receive meeting notices via email in advance of the meetings.

GACD staff will provide Custodians with ID cards to identify them as the District’s Custodian.

In the event a Custodian does not want to participate anymore, the District should be notified and equipment should be turned over to the designated District Supervisor noted on the Property Record; ID cards will need to be returned via mail to GACD, PO Box 1134, Ringgold, GA 30736.
