Lamar County Conservation District Presents: Beef Cattle 101 Educational Workshop Series

The Lamar County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD), in partnership with the Lamar/Upson Counties’ UGA Extension Service and the USDA—Natural Resources Conservation Service, has announced an innovative, comprehensive new cattle program series titled Beef Cattle 101.

This series will host workshops at various locations throughout the geographic area on the third Thursday of each calendar month from August 2019 – June 2020 (excluding December 2019) in the afternoons from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. Registration costs for the series, which include program materials and a catered meal, are as follows:

·    $15 per participant for a single, pre-registered workshop session

·    $25 per participant for a single workshop session registration at door, granted space is available

·   $60 per participant for an all-inclusive monthly workshop series registration (August 2019 – June 2020)

The ongoing workshop series, which is targeted toward beginning and novice farmers in the Central Georgia area, features topics of interest that range from financial and business operations to pasture establishment and management for beginning farmers. Other topics addressing business, natural resource and cattle selection concerns will be presented throughout the series. Several workshops will also offer pesticide license credits.

The first workshop of the series, held on August 15, 2019, at the Barnesville-Lamar County Library from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m., will present topics related to financing options, agricultural agencies’ assistance options and budgeting for beginning and novice farmers. Pre-registration deadlines for this workshop session end August 13, 2019.
