Ms. Brenda Harvey will be serving as the new Satilla River Soil and Water Conservation District's District Program Assistant. Brenda will be serving the counties of Glynn, Wayne, Camden, and Brantley. Brenda was born and raised on a family farm in Appling County, that is still thriving today. Conservation and Farming was a way of life. Brenda, later went on to college at Georgia Southern University and Mercer University and pursued a career in Education. She taught in the Appling County School System for many years. She later added on her Leadership Specialist Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Jacksonville Florida. She served as an Assistant Principal and the Principal of Appling County Primary school for 8 years. Brenda moved to the Appling County Board of Education and served as the Title I Parent Involvement Coordinator and the Title III Director for the Appling County School District. Brenda has always stayed involved in the community and has partnered with many families and farmers throughout the years. Brenda’s background in community- wide education and service has built a continued passion for the future growth of conservation and farming. Brenda is looking forward to building upon the partnerships of the communities and tying in the ever-growing need of increasing the importance of our state’s natural resources.
Christy Houck, District Program Assistant
Christy Houck serves as DPA for Satilla River Soil and Water Conservation District. She was born and raised in Telfair/Jeff Davis County where she graduated. She attended college at South Georgia College in Douglas, Georgia where her main focus was nursing. Making a life change, she moved to Waycross, Georgia where she is raising her two children. Christy's background is in the medical field, where she has been administrative support, certified nursing assistant and trained phlebotomist. Christy prides herself for being a people person and organizing force behind many roles in her church and her children's schools.
Christy hopes to bring awareness of conservation efforts to her community and surrounding areas. Her goal as a DPA is to do more and more outreach to teach our children good conservation practices and learn to appreciate what God has gifted us with.
